This short clip shows how a LiDAR scan was utilized to anchor the trunk to real-world set geometry
I created this crystal tree asset for a magical sequence in Dead Boy Detectives. My work included concept development, modeling, texturing, and lookdev.
I began by painting the concept in Photoshop, working directly over an on-set reference plate to match lighting, scale, and composition. Using a 3D LiDAR scan of the practical set, I rebuilt the asset in Maya to ensure correct placement and dimensional accuracy.
Textures were hand-painted in Substance Painter, and final look development was completed in Houdini, where I instanced crystal blossoms, refined shader networks, and prepared the asset for integration into the show’s VFX pipeline.
(Any final shots shown are included for visual reference only; I did not composite the finished sequence.)
